So lately I've been thinking, once again, of filing off the serial numbers and making Haleth and Inglor original characters in an original world. I go through this once every few years, mostly because I know that I should. That is, writing fanfiction is like learning to ride a bike then writing original fiction would be like taking off the training wheels.

The phase will pass. It's more of a 'do it because it's good for you' feeling than actual ambition.

Although...I've thought of how to incorporate Caranthir into Inglor and Haleth's story. At first he was going to be a scary, nasty villain, but that's dull.

A very brief scene came to mind where Haleth, as Caranthir's guest/captive, is sitting in a chair while he paces in front of her. He finally sits down, looks at her and asks 'do you know what your companion it?' Not who. Not what he does with himself, but what he is. I have no idea of where to go with it and I believe it would belong better in an original work than in a Tolkien fanfiction. But these things...sometimes the inspiration takes 12 years to arrive, like it did with the story of the barrow wights and the harp (I found the seeds for that idea in a brief story from 2002). Sometimes they never come, like the folder full of unfinished and barely begun stories that I abandoned on the old hard drive when the computer was updated.

It might be interesting to follow, though, just to see where it goes.

This is a very limited attempt at translating one of my stories into French. Google translator did most of the work with the verbs. French verbs are very difficult; much more so than English verbs. I've looked things over and tried to make them smooth, but I'm sure there are still mistakes.

I'm only going to put up one page at a time.

As always, constructive criticism is welcome.

I'd like to improve my ability to speak French. I can make myself understood, but I'd like to become more familiar with the language. If anyone can recommend some well-written French fanfiction stories, I would really appreciate it.

Fortunately I live in a city where it's easy to find French books. I think I'll start with the French version of Clifford, the big, red dog and work my way up.

I've moved most of the old stories to friends only. Why? While the ideas weren't completely horrible, the execution left a LOT to be desired. I don't want to spend the time required to upgrade them to an acceptable standard. Yet if I know the story is available for public consumption, I feel as though I should make the effort to improve it, which distracts me from doing anything new.

Some of these tales were originally written 9 years ago. It's time to let go and move on.

This isn't what I expected.

You are The Wheel of Fortune

Good fortune and happiness but sometimes a species of
intoxication with success

The Wheel of Fortune is all about big things, luck, change, fortune. Almost always good fortune. You are lucky in all things that you do and happy with the things that come to you. Be careful that success does not go to your head however. Sometimes luck can change.

The next story will be the Lay of Sigrid. The story revolves around Aegnor and an OFC, a Greenland Viking by the name of Sigrid. There is a great deal of miscommunication and culturally based misunderstandings.

It was originally written for the Tol Elannon collaboration on the Open Scrolls Archive.

In keeping with the request of the Tol Elannon moderators, who were kind enough to allow me permission to post this outside of the archive, all of the posts will be friends locked.

Welcome to my writing journal.

Why am I putting this here?  I'm not entirely sure.  It probably has something to do with another internet forum that I used to frequent doing odd things that are making some of my older stories inaccessible for editting.

The more I read that, the more I realize it isn't a reason.

It must be an emotional thing.
